Bela e o Monstro / Beauty and the Beast

How a celebrity was worth more by her beauty than for her work, and how a valuable body of work almost got overblown by years of an awkward image.

Downgrading Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson to these redundancies may seem exaggerated but there is an interesting point of view in this, for their lives can be defined in beautiful and monstrous moments. The ex-Charlie's Angel lived on the shadow of this glory (my favourite Angel has always been Jaclyn Smith), though her best work as an actress comes much later. The world was hungry for another blonde sex symbol, lost that is was after Marylin's sudden death, and on that shallow ground fame overcome Farrah, in fact a woman that was much more and much less than the pop ideal represents. And in the end, that same pop world, in its cruel form, made her death look forgetable when the "King of the Pop" himself died. Upon Michael Jackson's shoulders that title was a heavy burden, brought with his best work from the 1970s and 1980s. Everyone knows his problems and how they led him from an innocent and creative beauty into a strange, absurd, lost character.

In the end, what remains is the best of what they were and gave.
