A 12 de Setembro de 1962, o Presidente Kennedy proferiu famoso discurso "Escolhemos ir à Lua". Um empreendimento americano sem igual colocaria pela primeira vez um ser humano num corpo celestial.
Este ano, e nos dias próximos, marcam o 40º aniversário da histórica missão Apollo 11. Para celebrar esse momento foi criado um website original e fascinante chamado "We Choose the Moon". Em tempo real, como se fosse agora, podemos acompanhar todos os passos da missão espacial - desde a contagem decrescente do dia do lançamento, até à alunagem a 20 de Julho.
Desde então gerações têm olhado para os céus e sonhado em serem astronautas também. Eu fui uma criança que viveu e brincou nessa possibilidade. Todas as minhas crenças e sentido de aventura foram construídos porque três homens pisaram pela primeira vez a Lua em 1969. O sonho persiste, e a maravilha da exploração espacial é a próxima grande fronteira da Humanidade.
On September 12th 1962, President Kennedy delivered the famous "We choose to go to the Moon" speech. An american endeavour like no other before would place a human for the first time on another celestial body.
This year, and the days ahead, marks the 40th anniversary of the historic mission of Apollo 11. To celebrate that moment an original and fascinating website called "We Choose the Moon" has been created. In real time as if it was now, we can follow every step of the space mission - from countdown of launchday, to the landing on July 20.
Generations ever since look upon the skies and dream of being an astronaut too. I was a child how lived and played in that possibility. All my beliefs and sense of adventure was built because three men landed for the first time on the moon in 1969. The dream endures, and the marvel of space exploration is Mankind's greatest next frontier.
